Algiers to Host International Conference on the Crimes of Colonialism in Africa on 30 November

Diplomatic Correspondent: Algeria is set to host the International Conference on the Crimes of Colonialism in Africa on 30 November and 1 December in Algiers, under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The major continental gathering aims to address historical injustices suffered by Africans and people of African descent through the criminalization of colonialism and the pursuit of reparations.

The conference follows the adoption of African Union Assembly Resolution No. 903 in February 2025, which endorsed President Tebboune’s proposal to organize a forum dedicated to advancing the African Union’s 2025 theme: “Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations.”

Algeria, a nation that endured severe colonial oppression, remains deeply committed to defending the dignity, memory, and rights of African peoples. In line with this historical legacy, the upcoming conference is expected to provide renewed momentum in the global call for recognition of colonial crimes and the implementation of reparative justice across the African continent.
