Tarique Rahman Arrives in Sylhet

After 6,314 days—nearly seventeen years—Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman set foot on Bangladeshi soil on Thursday (25 December 2025). He arrived at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport at 10:00 am on a special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, where he was welcomed by BNP leaders and activists. After that, he will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by a domestic flight.

Tarique Rahman is the elder son of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. In 2007, he travelled to London for medical treatment amid various political circumstances and subsequently remained in exile for a long period.

Following his return to the country, his initial programmes include addressing party events, visiting Evercare Hospital in the capital to enquire about and meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia regarding her physical condition, and participating in various political activities. At the same time, BNP leadership views his return as a significant political moment in preparation for the upcoming national election.
