UK Home Office Probes AROPL Studios Over Visa Irregularities

Inside the Secretive Shia-Linked Studio Facing UK Home Office Visa Shutdown-Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light faces scrutiny as officials investigate ‘Skilled Worker’ sponsorship at Cheshire headquarters.

SHIA ROOTS REVEALED-While the group’s name often leads to confusion with the Sunni-based Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light (AROPL) is a distinct movement with deep roots in Twelver Shia Islam. Emerging from post-Saddam Iraq, the group follows the teachings of Ahmed al-Hassan and current leader Abdullah Hashem, whom they believe is the "Yamani"—a messianic figure in Shia eschatology. This "Shia-derivative" identity is central to their current legal defense; the group argues they are a persecuted religious minority whose unorthodox practices, such as allowing alcohol and rejecting the mandatory hijab, have made them targets of "heresy" charges in the Middle East.

SWEDISH PRECEDENT SPARKS UK PROBE- The Home Office investigation into AROPL Studios is not an isolated incident but follows a trail of legal battles in Scandinavia. Swedish migration courts previously branded three of the sect’s affiliated companies as "rogue employers," concluding they were shell entities used primarily to bypass immigration laws. This led to 69 deportation orders in Sweden before the group transitioned its global operations to a former orphanage in Crewe. UK investigators are now analyzing whether the 12 skilled worker visas issued to the studio since 2022 represent genuine media production roles or a continuation of the patterns seen in Sweden.

THE NEXT PHASE OF ENFORCEMENT-As of late March 2026, the Home Office has entered a "high-intensity" enforcement phase targeting sponsorship abuse. Documents indicate that the next steps for AROPL involve mandatory "genuine vacancy" audits. Under new rules, if AROPL Studios cannot provide forensic evidence of commercial media output—such as tax records for its YouTube-generated revenue and proof of specialized duties—its license will be revoked. Such a move would trigger a 60-day "grace period" for all sponsored individuals to find new employment or face mandatory removal from the UK, potentially sparking a high-profile human rights challenge based on their religious status.
