With the suspect now before the court, the investigation into the Friar Gate incident enters a critical phase of evidence verification and legal scrutiny, Daily Dazzling Dawn confirmed.

The legal proceedings against 36-year-old Sandhu Ponnachan have commenced at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, marking a pivotal shift from an active street investigation to a formal judicial inquiry. Ponnachan, a resident of Chariot Close, Alvaston, faces a total of nine charges that carry significant legal weight.

Analysis of official UK company registries confirms that Sandhu Ponnachan was appointed as a director of Greeshmam Limited on 20 November 2024. The firm, which remains active and is based in Coventry, lists his occupation as "Company Director." This verified professional background is now a key element of the investigation as detectives trace his activities in the months leading up to the weekend. While Ponnachan is originally from India, his established role within a UK-based company suggests a level of professional integration that investigators are now cross-referencing with his recent personal history.

Evidence and Charge Specifications-The Crown Prosecution Service has detailed the nine specific offenses Ponnachan faces. These include six counts of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent—the most serious form of assault short of attempted murder—alongside one count of attempted GBH with intent. Further charges include dangerous driving and the possession of a bladed article. The rapid response of the Derbyshire Constabulary is a matter of record, with the suspect apprehended at Station Approach just seven minutes after the black Suzuki Swift struck pedestrians outside the Bishop Blaise pub at approximately 21:30 GMT on Saturday.

In a significant development for the community, police have confirmed that the recovery process for those injured is underway. Of the seven victims involved—four men and three women aged between 36 and 52—four have now been officially discharged from the hospital. While their injuries were initially described as serious, medical professionals have clarified that they are not life-threatening. The statements from these survivors are expected to form the cornerstone of the prosecution’s case as the matter moves toward a higher court.

Official Directive on Public Speculation-Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred has praised the "positive news" of the charges but issued a firm directive to the public regarding the ongoing nature of the case. "This incident has, naturally, sent shockwaves through the community of Derby and the county as a whole," she told journalists. Crucially, she urged the community to "allow the judicial process to continue without any speculation" that could potentially impede the pursuit of justice. While counter-terrorism officers assisted in the early stages—a move described as standard protocol to maintain an "open mind" regarding motives—officials have reiterated that the focus remains on the specific criminal charges filed.

Following his appearance in the Magistrates’ Court, Ponnachan has been remanded in custody. The case is expected to be transferred to a Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing. During this interval, forensic teams will continue the digital reconstruction of the event, analyzing GPS data and CCTV to establish a definitive timeline of the minutes preceding the incident.
