A 39-year-old golf instructor has been handed an extended 21-year sentence at Lewes Crown Court after being convicted of grooming and repeatedly abusing a teenage girl across East Sussex. George Scott, formerly of Beacon Road, Crowborough, was found guilty of 11 serious sexual offences, concluding a protracted police investigation into historical abuse where he exploited his professional authority over a two-year timeframe.

The judicial proceedings detailed how Scott utilised his position as a golf coach to manipulate and groom the victim, who was under the age of 16 at the time of the offences. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that the jury found Scott guilty on multiple counts, comprising eight charges of sexual assault by penetration, one charge of intentionally causing a girl under 16 to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity, one charge of causing a child to watch sexual activity, and an additional count of sexual abuse while occupying a recognised position of trust.

The court heard extensive evidence outlining how the defendant methodically isolated and pressured the young victim, creating an environment where the child felt unable to escape his influence or challenge his authority.

In an impact statement submitted to the court, the victim, who retains lifelong legal anonymity, recounted the ongoing psychological trauma caused by the ordeal. She expressed that she continues to fight daily against intrusive memories and flashbacks stemming directly from Scott's conduct.

The victim stated to journalists that she often felt blamed and shamed for something that was never her fault, emphasising the persistent emotional weight carried across her everyday life. The court observed that such predatory conduct systematically distorts a young person's sense of self-worth and safety, requiring substantial long-term psychological rehabilitation.

Passing sentence at Lewes Crown Court, the judge ordered Scott to serve a 19-year custodial term with an additional two years on extended licence, bringing the total operational sentence to 21 years. Under the provisions of the extended sentence, the defendant must serve at least two-thirds of the custodial period before becoming eligible to apply for parole consideration.

Alongside an indefinite inclusion on the sex offenders register, the court imposed a restraining order prohibiting him from attempting any contact with the victim.

Following the conclusion of the trial, Sussex Police emphasised the gravity of the offences and paid tribute to the victim's resilience in bringing the matter before the justice system. Detective Inspector Mors Lambert commended the victim for coming forward to report her experience during what was described as a highly distressing and intricate police inquiry.

Lambert noted that Scott groomed the victim and abused her in an appalling manner, breaching the professional trust placed in him over an extended two-year period. Sussex Police reiterated that specialised support services remain available across the region through dedicated safeguarding networks to assist anyone affected by non-recent or ongoing sexual violence.
