A man has been shot by police in Luton after a woman was stabbed during an incident on Tuesday.
Armed police officers were called to Cardigan Street at around 12.50pm following reports that a man was threatening a woman with a knife.
According to the police watchdog, one Bedfordshire Police officer fired four shots, while another officer discharged a baton round. The man appears to have been hit twice, once in the arm and once in the leg.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering life-changing injuries, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.
The woman was also taken to hospital after sustaining stab wounds. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The IOPC has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
