Somok Ali Noor Bhai was a great anti racist campaign activist and fighter during the 70's. In 1980 facts funding mission to Bangladesh and Somok Ali Abdul Noor Bhai was one of the Bengali community delegation members representative of Bangladesh Youth Movement ( BYM). He is going to be remembered for his contribution.
The first British high profile and largest delegation of facts finding educational mission to Bangladesh.
On 3rd August 1980 the first high profile and large British delegation to Bangladesh on facts finding a mission and pur mission was to give clear message to all local and national institutions Bengali community no longer untouchable community in British society the delegation led by Tower Hamlet Council leader Paul Bisley and Cllr Charles Mudd, Dan Jones, Joe Abraham, Danken Brown, Nichols Samson, Clare Murphy, Cathy Peters, Tom Lamont, Shearjul Haque, Sunahwar Ali, Abdul Aziz ( Sonali Bank London) and Shomok Ali ( Abdul Noor) who is recently passed away in London. We landed at Tajgow Airport Dhaka on 4 August 1980 and two mini buses provided by Ansar and Sonali Bank and we were taken to Zakaria Hotel in Mohakali where we all stayed for 5 days and visited different ministers that is including Home Minister Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Food Minister Iqual Hussain Chowdhury who was also Chairman of Shunamjang Poroshaba.
The Deputy Food Minister offered us to visit Sunamganj and we accepted his offer. On six days of our visit we started our journey to Sylhet by road and we stopped at the Shreemongal one the pineapple garden and old gentleman where there with van gari ( Pulling Toil) with lots of fresh pineapple where we asked the old gentleman to give one pineapple each by taken the pineapple skin off to eat and the pineapple was very sweet and we all was enjoying but by surprise one old gentleman came near Dan Jones and slap on his face by saying you don't have on shame on you and eating on the month of Ramadan publicly. We all acted instantly by saying please stop and this gentleman is not Muslim but the Bengali old gentleman said how come he had bear and me and Shearjul Haque explained everything to Bengali old gentlemen! Just before the sunsets we ended up at Sylhet Circuit House where all arrengenment was made by Deputy Food Minister Iqual Hussain Chowdhury, we had our dinner at the Circuit House and after dinner we plan for next few days of our trips and we agreed to visit Shahjalal Majar next morning first then Shahporaner Majar and later one the tea garden after Shafrang Majar, our way to Shahporaner Majar after visiting Shahjalal Majar where Sherajul Haque without our knowledge change our plans we agreed at night after dinner!
So, one of our mini buses after crossing Shafrang Majar the mini buses expire tire came out from the holder behind the mini buses and started jumping to the feddy field and both of our mini buses stop at the gate of Shafrang Majar while the driver fixing the trier we all enjoyed ourselves and myself and Joe Abraham took a Rishkhaw and started ridding ourselves having a fun. After mini buses was fixed and told everyone that it was wrong for Sherajul Haque change our plans we all agree at night but now we going visiting Sharafarg major but all none Muslim must stay lower level of the major not allowed to go at the top!
Following afternoon we plan our trip to my village Bazar to drop me off for few days staying with my family and Somok Ali Noor Bhai to go to his village and return back to Sylhet Town few days later but we all drop Somok Ali Noor Bhai near his village one Miles before my village Bazar at Dosgor and when to Kanbari Bazar where seven people company me to my village Bazar Paul Bisley leader of the delegation and leader of the Tower Hamlet Council, Cllr Charles Mudd, Joe Abraham my school teacher and Cllr, Cathy Peters local Anti Racist Activist and my close friend, Nicholas Samson, Tower Hamlet public relations office, Clare Murphy, Youth and Community Worker for Avenues Unlimited, and my local friend Abdul Kalique Sanu who was staying with us started from Tajgow Airport Dhaka and retuning back to London on 4 September 1980.
Shomok Ali Abdul Noor Bhai was last seen by many of us dropping him to his village where after his return back to London I have seen him number of times on the street coming from his leather garment factory works but never seen him meeting friends for adda( gathering) or Community or Anti Racist meeting again. The majority of us were involved with the Anti Racist Movement during the 70's and 80's for active people that was full time commitment and it was like taking a drug matter of struggle of our survival but pur family and relatives was negelated by all of us that is including providing financial support and we all became enemy of our family and relatives and friends.
We came to the UK to work and earnings money and supporting our family and relatives where Shomok Ali Abdul Noor Bhai after going back to his family realise how much suffering his family where going through due to his absence of supporting his family financially and similar many who initially was involved with the Anti Racist Movement due to lots pressure on them by their family and relatives had go doing paid work within the area or some where force go to restaurant industry keeping away from Bengali community which many become successful financially and those of us ignoring family and relatives pressure and stayed on doing community and anti racist activities which relapsed later in a old age which no point of return back to the past and rectify such mistake or lost and no one within our community don't acknowledge our secrifise and commitment for the community which given everyone more easy and comfortable life both politically and financially and enjoying all service and facilities didn't exist for ourselves or our parents in past! My condones goes to Somok Ali Noor Bhai's family his commitment and contributions for our community with his Anti Racist Campaign and community work during 70's and 80's and may Allah bless his soul. Amin.
