The British government has issued a new warning for British citizens and residents to travel to Bangladesh in light of the tense situation in Bangladesh over the anti-quota movement of students. The warning was announced in official bulletin on Thursday.

In the warning message, those who will travel to Bangladesh or are staying in Bangladesh under these circumstances are requested to be especially careful.

At least 19 people have been killed in the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh over government job reservations, prompting authorities to shut down all universities in the country indefinitely.

Hundreds of people have sustained injuries in the protests, which turned violent after demonstrators clashed with police and pro-government agitators this week. Three of the dead have been identified as students aged between 22 and 32.

They have been protesting against a 30 percent reservation in government jobs for family members of freedom fighters from the 1971 War of Independence. The quota system also reserves jobs for women, disabled people, and ethnic minority groups.

British people make around 50 million trips abroad during an average year. Almost all of these trips are trouble-free.
