The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has voiced "surprise" at social networking giant X's intention to use user posts to train an AI chatbot.
The company now intends to exploit user interactions and posts to improve its service.
X users are automatically opted into the new approach, although they can opt out in the web-based app's settings.
When enabled, the setting allows posts on the site and interactions with the chatbot to be utilized for "training," and the data can also be shared with an xAI partner company.

X has its European headquarters in Dublin, hence the DPC is its primary regulator in Europe.
In a statement, a spokeswoman said: "The DPC has been engaged with X on this topic for several months, with our most recent conversation occurring as recently as yesterday, therefore we are startled by today's developments.
