At the Boardmasters music festival in Newquay on Friday, concertgoers were hurt in a crowd surge, according to Devon and Cornwall police. One woman described the event as "terrifying," saying that she was caught in a "massive crowd surge."

Police issued a statement saying, "We have been notified following a crowd surge at Boardmasters music festival in Newquay on Friday, August 9 which left a small number of attendees injured." Festival organizers reported that a scheduled set by DJ and producer Sammy Virji was canceled.

"Medical personnel are currently treating the injured persons on the scene, or they have been transported to a hospital for further evaluation. All of the wounds are not thought to be serious. The celebration goes on, and this is an isolated episode.

"My daughter and I got crushed against the barriers so I heaved her up and over a barrier and then pulled myself out," the attendee who spoke with PA Media said. Once more, I alerted the security officers to the impending serious issue. It appeared like nothing was done. No security was in place to halt people.

Boardmasters stated: "We can confirm that the Point stage was closed to let on-site teams to attend to an issue in the audience, and that Sammy Virji's set was canceled.

"Those involved were given immediate assistance by the medical teams and the pit, and no significant injuries have been reported." Our top focus is safety, and we appreciate Sammy's and the audience's understanding. There has been no impact on any other stages or performances.
