Syed Refaat Ahmed is a jurist who is the 25th chief justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Previously, he worked at the High Court Division and Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.Ahmed was born on 28 December 1958. His father, Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed, was a former attorney general of Bangladesh. His mother's name is Dr. Sufia Ahmed. Dr. Sfuia Ahmed was a National Professor of Bangladesh and professor of Islamic History and Culture at the University of Dhaka.
Ahmed did his bachelor of law at the University of Dhaka. He completed a bachelor of arts in jurisprudence and masters at the Wadham College of Oxford University in 1983. He completed a Masters and PhD at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.Ahmed was appointed an additional justice of the Bangladesh High Court on 27 April 2003.
