According to figures from the Home Office, the number of persons spotted crossing on Sunday was 703, marking the third highest number this year. A rough estimate of 18,342 small boat arrivals is the total for 2024. In a small boat, two migrants have perished while trying to cross the English Channel. According to a French marine official who spoke with the BBC, the event occurred on Sunday morning offshore between Calais and Dunkirk in France. 53 migrants were saved in all. French maritime authorities said that many individuals on a different boat sustained burns from gasoline in a different event. From the second small boat, about fifty people were saved. According to French officials, this year has seen 25 migrants perish while trying to traverse the busiest shipping channel in the world.
