Shenzhen eases travel with 5-day VOA and 144-hour visa-free transit
Shenzhen has updated its visa policies to benefit both tourists and international students. The 5-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) allows travelers from countries such as the U.S., U.K., and Europe to enter Shenzhen without a pre-arranged visa, but only for stays within the city. Additionally, a 144-hour visa-free transit option is available for citizens of 53 countries, enabling short stays in Guangdong Province without a visa. These changes make it easier to visit Shenzhen, especially for those traveling from Hong Kong.
Changes and Benefits:
1. 5-Day Visa on Arrival (VOA):
Tourists from countries like the U.S., U.K., and many European nations can easily obtain a 5-day Shenzhen visa on arrival. This allows them to explore the city without needing to apply for a full Chinese visa in advance. The VOA can be acquired at the border upon entering Shenzhen. However, it is limited to the Shenzhen region and cannot be extended or used for other parts of China.
2. 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit:
For international students or tourists passing through Shenzhen, the city now offers a 144-hour (6-day) visa-free transit for citizens from 53 countries. This policy allows travelers to stay in Shenzhen and explore the Guangdong province without a visa, provided they have an onward ticket to a third country.
3. Streamlined Entry from Hong Kong:
Travelers from Hong Kong can easily cross the border using the new policies. With enhanced border crossing points, including Luohu and Huanggang, travelers can now enter Shenzhen seamlessly. High-speed rail connections between Hong Kong and Shenzhen further ease transit.
These policies make visiting Shenzhen more accessible for short-term stays, whether for leisure or academic purposes, without the hassle of applying for a longer-term visa in advance.
