Together with Muslims, more than 50 Hindus and eight Christians restored a damaged mosque that had stood for two centuries.
On Saturday, January 4, the refurbished Shafi Juma Masjid in Ponnampete was officially opened.
Chief Secretary of the mosque, P A Azeez, said, “BBMP member of BJP Narayana Raju donated Rs 2.5 lac for the renovation of the mosque. Suresh readied the furniture required for the mosque. Raju Pillai, a Christian, did the construction work. As people of various religions joined hands with us, it was possible to renovate the mosque.”
This distinctive Shafi Juma Masjid is a different kind of location to pray because it does not have minarets. The mosque can now hold about 600 people for namaaz at a time after renovations costing more than Rs 2 crore. It is Ponnampete Taluk's biggest mosque.
The administration of the mosque has also been incredibly friendly, never turning away anyone who asks for help. As a result, this mosque represents harmony within the Ponnampete community.
Samastha Kendra Mushawara president Syed Zifri Muttukoya Taangal officially opened the mosque, a symbol of fraternity, on Saturday.
