Nigel Farage and Rupert Lowe engaged in a fierce dispute on social media as internal conflicts within Reform UK intensified. The party leader strongly rejected the Great Yarmouth MP’s accusation that he had been prevented from speaking out on grooming gangs, calling the claim "monstrous."
The controversy follows Lowe’s expulsion from the party last week over alleged misconduct, which he denies. Clacton MP Farage responded on X, stating that he had been an advocate against rape gangs for over a decade and condemned Lowe’s remarks as completely false. He further accused Lowe of telling Lee Anderson that he intended to "slit the throat of the Reform party," asserting that Lowe was deliberately trying to cause harm and should be disregarded by supporters.
Lowe, in turn, accused Farage of acting out of "desperation" and defended himself in a response on social media. He clarified that his statement had been misrepresented, claiming that he actually warned Reform’s leadership that they were harming themselves by launching what he called an unjust smear campaign against him without any solid evidence. He also insisted that his expulsion was motivated by his criticism of the party’s policies, communication, and structure rather than any wrongdoing.
The dispute deepened when Farage firmly ruled out the possibility of Lowe returning to the party following his remarks about grooming gangs. The internal divisions escalated further when Reform UK reported Lowe to the police, alleging that he had made "threats of physical violence" against party chairman Zia Yusuf. Additionally, the party claimed that two female employees in Lowe’s office had filed complaints of "workplace bullying" and "derogatory remarks" against him.
Lowe has strongly denied all accusations, maintaining that the bullying allegations were unrelated to him and had come from staff members who were themselves facing disciplinary action. He also questioned the timing of the police report, highlighting that Scotland Yard had only received the complaint last Thursday regarding an incident allegedly occurring the previous December.
Tensions had already been rising a day earlier when Lowe openly criticized Farage’s leadership in a bold interview, marking a clear deepening of divisions within the right-wing party.
