Many UK motorists are feeling "confused" about major upcoming driving reforms that will affect everyone in the years ahead.

A recent survey highlights uncertainty surrounding the ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, with many unsure about its implications. This significant change will reshape the country's driving culture and speed up the transition to electric vehicles.

These developments are part of broader DVSA Changes, which will play a crucial role in the future of UK motoring.

But a lot of British people aren't ready or certain of what's going on.

More than 14,000 AA members were surveyed, and 7% of them believed that the government was outlawing the selling of secondhand petrol and diesel vehicles.

All EVs are automatic, although there are about one-third manual.

It indicates that a great deal more needs to be done to educate people about the changes and their implications for Britons.

Rhydian Jones, Confused.com car insurance expert, said: "As we get closer to the 2030 ban on sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles, UK drivers are feeling the pressure to switch to electric cars, but are also confused about how to make the transition.

“That’s particularly true as additional infrastructure and incentives are necessary to support drivers in making the switch to greener alternatives.

“Our research found that 46% of drivers are unlikely to purchase an electric vehicle (EV), with the main reason (68%) being the high cost of buying or leasing one.

“The price of EVs remains a major barrier for many motorists, but there is hope that the Government will introduce more measures to make eco-friendly vehicles more affordable.

“Currently, nearly one in four (23%) UK drivers expect to still be using a petrol vehicle by 2030.

“However, with new incentives, more motorists could be encouraged to make the transition.

“While concerns about EV costs persist, along with the introduction of new VED laws for EV owners in April, drivers should keep in mind that switching to an electric vehicle still offers several advantages.”
