Cardiff Tragedy: Slain Bangladeshi Father Awaits Rest, Son Hospitalized
  • A Son's Agony, A Father's Unlaid Rest

In a tale that has gripped the hearts of the Bangladeshi community in Cardiff, a son accused of the brutal murder of his septuagenarian father remains under police guard in a hospital in Bournemouth. Meanwhile, the body of his unfortunate father, Alhaj Ataur Rahman Bilat Mia, lies in a hospital morgue, awaiting a post-mortem examination, a somber wait now extending to four agonizing days since the incident.

Multiple sources confirmed this tragic development to the Daily Dazzling Dawn on Sunday, July 27, 2025, indicating that it may take at least another three days for the family to receive Mr. Bilat Mia's remains. His funeral prayers and burial are planned to take place in Cardiff.

Family members and neighbors have shed light on the deeply distressing circumstances surrounding the death of Alhaj Ataur Rahman (Bilat Mia) at the hands of his son, Saiful. Last year, Mr. Bilat Mia's wife, Parveen Nahar Haque, succumbed to a terminal illness. It is now understood that during her lifetime, even close relatives were not fully aware of the extent of Saiful's mental health struggles, as she painstakingly shielded and cared for him. Following his mother's passing, Saiful's mental state reportedly deteriorated further. Having already separated from his wife and daughter, his mother had been his sole anchor and refuge.

Sources indicate that among Mr. Bilat Mia's five children – three sons and two daughters – his eldest son, Saiful Rahman, had been battling mental illness for a considerable period. Approximately two decades ago, his parents arranged his marriage in Bangladesh. His wife subsequently joined him in the UK, at which point he was reportedly mentally stable. The couple also has a daughter. However, due to Saiful's escalating mental health issues, his wife and daughter separated from him much earlier.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed that the victim was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, where he tragically passed away. An ongoing investigation has been launched into the incident. They further stated: "A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and initially taken into police custody. He has since been detained in a hospital under the Mental Health Act. We are not seeking anyone else in connection with this investigation."

Alhaj Ataur Rahman (Bilat Mia), a wealthy businessman and long-time resident of Cardiff from Uluwail village in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh, was reportedly attacked in his sleep by his own son last Wednesday, July 23, 2025. The deceased sustained multiple stab wounds, not just to his throat, but to various parts of his body. Relatives disclosed that the mentally unwell eldest son, Saiful, had attempted to slit his father Bilat Mia's throat.

At approximately 5 AM on the day of the incident, another son and two daughters of Mr. Bilat Mia were asleep in their home in Richard Terrace, Adamsdown, Cardiff. They awoke to their father's screams and witnessed the horrific scene. After leaving his father half-dead, Saiful reportedly jumped from the third floor of the house. Police apprehended Saiful, who was injured in the fall.

The Daily Dazzling Dawn reached out to several leaders within the Bangladeshi community in Cardiff on Sunday, July 27, 2025, to gauge their reactions to this profoundly heartbreaking murder. However, out of respect for the grieving Bilat Mia family and to avoid causing further distress, none of them were willing to provide statements on record.

A worshipper from Cardiff Shahjalal Mosque said that two weeks before his death, Bilat Mia had offered prayers at Shahjalal Mosque and sought everyone's blessings for his well-being. In a cruel twist of fate, he had to depart for the afterlife.
