Double Tragedy Rocks Romford: Woman Stabbed, Man Dead on Tracks in Connected Incidents

Romford Residents Stunned by Apparent Murder-Suicide Investigation

A quiet Sunday evening in Romford was shattered by a tragic sequence of events yesterday, July 27, culminating in a murder investigation after a woman in her 60s was found fatally stabbed, a death now formally linked to that of a 20-year-old man on nearby railway tracks.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to an address in Bushy Close, Romford, at approximately 9:00 PM on Sunday, following an urgent welfare concern raised by British Transport Police (BTP). Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman in her 60s suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite the swift response, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier the same day, at around 1:20 PM, a 20-year-old man was found on the tracks at Romford railway station. British Transport Police attended alongside paramedics, but he was also pronounced dead at the scene. BTP confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are now leading a murder investigation into the woman's death, working closely with BTP. Initial inquiries strongly suggest that the man and woman were known to each other, and police are treating the two deaths as connected, indicating a potential murder-suicide scenario.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, stated, "Our thoughts remain with the victim's family at this difficult time as we investigate the circumstances behind this terrible incident. At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public."

Detective Superintendent Simon Giles, from the East Area investigations team, added, "I understand that the incident is distressing for the community and we are working closely with our colleagues in the Specialist Crime Command to progress the investigation as quickly as possible. Those in the area today can expect to see our officers and we encourage anyone with any information to speak with them.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the woman's death, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police have confirmed that the woman's family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers.

Residents in Romford and Bushy Close can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as officers continue their enquiries throughout today, Monday, July 28. Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward by calling 101, reporting online, or contacting @METCC on 'X' (formerly Twitter), quoting CAD6914/27JUL.

This unfolding tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, as police work to establish the full circumstances surrounding both deaths.
