In a significant political and personal development, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, has departed the United Kingdom for Bangladesh. She left London on Thursday evening local time with the primary objective of arranging the transfer of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London for advanced medical treatment.
Witnesses at Heathrow Airport reported seeing Dr. Zubaida boarding a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Dhaka earlier in the afternoon. She was accompanied at the airport by her daughter, Zaima Rahman, who was present to see her off as she embarked on this critical journey home.
The urgency of this trip underscores the deepening concern regarding the health of the former Prime Minister, who has been hospitalized for the past twelve days at the capital's Evercare Hospital. According to recent medical bulletins, Begum Zia’s physical condition remains unchanged, a situation that has sparked widespread anxiety and prayers among the general public across the country.
The BNP Chairperson had previously sought medical care abroad earlier this year. She traveled to London in January, where she received treatment initially in a hospital and subsequently while residing at the home of her son, Tarique Rahman. After a stay of nearly four months, she returned to Bangladesh on May 6.
Her current health crisis precipitated on the night of November 23, when she began experiencing severe respiratory distress. Following immediate medical examinations that revealed a lung infection, she was admitted to the hospital without delay. Her condition reportedly deteriorated in the early hours of last Sunday, necessitating an urgent transfer from the High Dependency Unit (SDU) to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), where she currently remains under close medical observation.
