Two people have died after an explosion at a residential property in south Wales.
Emergency services were called to a house on Heol Fawr in Nelson, near Treharris, on Friday evening following reports of a fire. Gwent Police said officers and crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene after an explosion was reported in the garden of the two-storey home at around 6.10pm.
Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed later. Specialist fire crews remained at the property on Saturday morning to carry out a structural safety assessment.
In an update issued by Gwent Police at 8pm on Friday, officers confirmed that the incident was ongoing and that the road had been closed. Diversions were put in place for public safety, and residents in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
Police also said the victims’ family had been informed. WalesOnline has contacted both the fire service and police for further details.
