Wiltshire Police have unveiled the results of a massive, 13-year investigation into a harrowing campaign of sexual violence involving a former Swindon resident and five other men. At the center of the updated charges is the role of Mohammed Hassan, a 37-year-old British Asian man residing at Torun Way, Swindon, whose involvement has now been documented as part of a wider conspiracy of abuse spanning more than a decade, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.
The case gained significant public attention after the victim, 48-year-old Joanne Young, took the courageous and rare step of waiving her lifelong right to anonymity. Her decision to go public has shed light on the scale of the allegations, which date back to 2010 and continued until 2023. Ms. Young’s ex-husband, 49-year-old Philip Young, faces the most severe volume of charges, totaling 56 counts that include rape, voyeurism, and the administration of substances intended to overpower a victim for sexual purposes.
The investigation has widened significantly to include Mohammed Hassan, who has been formally charged with sexual touching. Hassan, identified by authorities as a British Asian male living in the Oakhurst area of Swindon, is part of a group of five men who allegedly participated in the cycle of abuse alongside Philip Young. While Young remains in custody, Hassan and the other four co-defendants have been released on bail pending their appearance at Swindon Magistrates' Court.
The involvement of Hassan highlights the "complex and extensive" nature of the case, as described by Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith. Investigators have spent months piecing together how these six men, from varying backgrounds and locations, became interconnected in a string of offences against a single victim. The charges suggest a sustained period of exploitation that police say required "specially trained officers" to untangle.
Joining Hassan in the dock are Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook, charged with rape; Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed abode, charged with rape and sexual assault; Conner Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Swindon, charged with sexual assault; and Richard Wilkins, 61, of Swindon, also charged with rape and sexual touching.
This case has sent shockwaves through the Swindon community, particularly as details of the alleged 13-year duration of the crimes emerge. The prosecution is expected to provide further clarity on the specific dynamics between the men and how Mohammed Hassan and others were allegedly drawn into the offences orchestrated during Joanne Young’s marriage to the primary suspect. All six men are scheduled to face a magistrate on Tuesday, marking the next stage in one of Wiltshire’s most disturbing recent criminal proceedings.
