As the countdown begins for the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh, a detailed picture has emerged regarding the high-profile entourage accompanying him on this significant journey. Beyond the political weight of his homecoming, the logistics of the flight reveal a large and dedicated group of family, aides, and party loyalists traveling from London to Dhaka, Daily Dazzling Dawn realized.
The BNP leader is scheduled to travel on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 202, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Sources confirmed that six business class seats were specifically reserved for Rahman’s immediate circle. This core group consists of his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman; their daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman; and his personal secretary, Abdur Rahman Sunny. Also included in the official party are Saleh Shibly from the party’s press wing and Kamal Uddin of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation.
While the primary group is confirmed, questions remain regarding the participation of the late Arafat Rahman Koko’s daughters, Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman. It has not yet been established if they will be joining their uncle on this specific flight.
The business class cabin will also host a notable gathering of senior UK BNP leaders and influential figures who have secured tickets at their own expense. Among those confirmed to be on board are Mahidur Rahman, Mujibur Rahman Mujib, Khasruzzaman Khasru, Nashir Ahmad Shahin, Rahim Uddin, Asaduzzaman Ahmed, Golam Rabbani, Moin Uddin, Jubayer Babu, M. A. Salam, and Dalia Lakuria.
The financial cost of joining this historic flight is substantial. Reports indicate that one-way business class tickets for this particular journey were sold for lastly approximately £3,600, which converts to nearly 594,000 Bangladeshi Taka.
The presence of the BNP leader’s supporters extends beyond the premium cabin. Approximately 35 additional passengers have booked economy class seats for the flight. This group includes leaders from BNP units across Ireland, Finland, and Italy, along with other European nations. The entourage also includes domestic staff serving the Rahman family. In total, the group accompanying the Acting Chairman is estimated to be around 50 people.
In a briefing held early Wednesday, UK BNP Convener Abul Kalam Azad addressed the media regarding the travel arrangements. He stated that while the party leader is traveling with his family and personal staff, many others have independently arranged to be on the same flight. Azad noted that Tarique Rahman has repeatedly requested through public forums that supporters refrain from gathering at the airport to see him off, emphasizing the need for a disciplined departure. Given that Mr. Tarique Rahman has repeatedly and publicly forbidden anyone from coming to the airport to see him off, I truly have nothing further to add on this matter.
