Khaleda Zia Tribute: UK BNP Cancels Gayebana Janaza Following Urgent Directives from Dhaka

An atmosphere of profound grief enveloped East London on Tuesday night as hundreds of Bangladeshi expatriates and political activists gathered at the historic Altab Ali Park to offer special prayers for the departed soul of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The event, marked by solemnity and emotional tributes, saw a massive turnout of the Bangladeshi diaspora mourning the loss of the veteran stateswoman.

While the UK chapter of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had spent much of the day coordinating a symbolic funeral prayer, known as a Ghaibana Janaza, the program underwent a strategic last-minute adjustment. Party insiders confirmed that the shift from a funeral prayer to a dedicated prayer session was made following specific directives from the party’s central leadership in Dhaka. This decision was rooted in the traditional protocol of ensuring that the primary funeral rites are completed within Bangladesh before holding symbolic Janazas abroad.

Abul Kalam Azad, the newly appointed Convener of the UK BNP, clarified the transition during talking to Daily Dazzling Dawn.He explained that the central command advised the overseas wing to prioritize a prayer gathering over a Ghaibana Janaza out of respect for the official proceedings taking place back home. He emphasized that the UK wing immediately complied with these instructions, transforming the assembly into a massive spiritual gathering to seek divine blessings for the late leader.

Under the leadership of Convener Abul Kalam Azad, the gathered mourners participated in a fervent Munajat, praying for the peace and salvation of the former Prime Minister’s soul. The park, a landmark of community activism, became a sea of grieving supporters who stayed late into the night. As the prayers concluded, an outpouring of emotion was visible among the attendees, reflecting the deep-seated connection between the expatriate community and the legacy of the BNP Chairperson.
