A devastating sequence of events has shattered a family from Sylhet, leaving them to mourn on two continents simultaneously. In a cruel twist of fate, the bodies of a father and his eldest son currently lie in hospital morgues thousands of miles apart—one in London and the other in Bangladesh—following a week of unimaginable loss, Daily Dazzling Dawn confirmed.
A Father Spared the Ultimate Pain-Fazlul Haque, the father of deceased student Nafizul Haque Shakil, passed away in Bangladesh on Saturday night. Family sources confirmed that Mr. Haque, who had recently suffered a stroke, was kept completely in the dark regarding the tragic death of his son in London earlier this week. To protect his fragile health, relatives made the difficult decision to withhold the news, meaning he took his last breath unaware that his beloved son had predeceased him. While his body remains at a hospital in Bangladesh, preparations are being made for his burial. Khosruzzaman, the Head of Community Engagement and Inclusion at Barts Health NHS Trust, who was overseeing Shakil’s care in London, confirmed the news. Speaking on Saturday night, he confirmed that Shakil’s body is still awaiting a post-mortem examination. Once the autopsy is completed next week, funeral prayers will be held, and the body will then be repatriated to Bangladesh.
Dreams Ends on Commercial Road-The tragedy began with the loss of 23-year-old Nafizul Haque Shakil, who hailed from Banigram in the Kanaighat Upazila of Sylhet. As the eldest son, Shakil carried the heavy weight of his family’s financial future on his shoulders. He had arrived in the UK on a student visa less than a year ago, determined to pursue higher education and support his aging parents back home.

Those aspirations came to a violent halt on Wednesday, January 14. While cycling along Commercial Road in East London, Shakil was reportedly struck by the door of a private car that was suddenly opened by a driver. The impact threw him onto the main carriageway, where he was instantly run over by an oncoming lorry.
The Aftermath and Repatriation-Emergency services rushed a critically injured Shakil to the Royal London Hospital. He was admitted to the trauma department, where he fought for his life for five days. Despite the tireless efforts of the medical team, Shakil succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night at 9:21 PM on 19th of January.
As of now, Shakil’s body remains in the hospital mortuary in London, pending a mandatory post-mortem examination. Community leaders from Kanaighat currently residing in London are overseeing the complex legal procedures to release the body. Arrangements are currently underway to repatriate his remains to Bangladesh, where a grieving family waits to face the overwhelming task of laying both the head of their household and their future hope to rest.
