We would arrest Netanyahu

Hungary’s incoming prime minister, Péter Magyar, has stated that he would maintain the country’s membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and enforce its rulings, including the arrest of individuals such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if they enter Hungarian territory.

Speaking in Budapest, Magyar made it clear that he intends to reverse the previous government’s plan to withdraw from the ICC. His position means that Hungary would continue to be bound by international obligations, including executing ICC arrest warrants if required.

The statement marks a significant shift from the outgoing government, which had moved to distance Hungary from the ICC amid political disagreements over its decisions.

Magyar’s remarks also directly reference Netanyahu, who faces an ICC arrest warrant related to alleged war crimes. Under Hungary’s renewed commitment to the court, such warrants would be enforced if the individuals concerned travel to the country.
