Family’s Third Tragedy as Scarlett's Young Cousin Fights for Life

A community in Limerick gathers at the Ballynanty Shrine this evening as 10-year-old Christopher Faulkner fights for his life after a fatal Belfast collision.

As of 3:15 pm on Monday, 27 April 2026, the people of Limerick are united in a desperate vigil for ten-year-old Christopher Faulkner. The young boy remains in a critical, life-threatening condition in a Belfast hospital following a high-speed collision on Sunday morning. This latest catastrophe marks the third devastating event to strike the Faulkner family circle in five weeks, occurring just one week after the funeral of Scarlett Faulkner and precisely seven days after the sudden passing of her brother, Jason.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the collision occurred shortly before 8 am on Sunday, 26 April, on the Belfast Road at Nutts Corner. The incident involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Volkswagen Passat. In a significant investigative development, the driver of the Golf was arrested at the scene on several motoring charges and remains in police custody for questioning. While 16-year-old Callum Hutchinson from County Tipperary tragically died at the scene, Christopher was transported for emergency care, where he continues to fight for survival.

The timeline of this family’s loss is a harrowing testament to their current burden. Scarlett Faulkner, 29, passed away on 13 April following an assault in March. Her brother, Jason Faulkner, who served as a pallbearer at her funeral on Saturday, 18 April, passed away suddenly the following day, Sunday, 19 April. This sequence of loss has left the family "crushed and broken," according to statements provided to a journalist at Daily Dazzling Dawn.

In an outpouring of community solidarity, a prayer vigil has been scheduled for 6:30 pm this evening. While initial reports suggested a church venue, the gathering will take place at the *Ballynanty Shrine*, a location of significant spiritual importance to the local community in the St Lelia’s area. The vigil aims to offer collective support for Christopher’s recovery and to honour the memory of young Callum Hutchinson.

The legal and investigative tracks of these tragedies remain separate but equally intense. As the PSNI continues its road traffic investigation, the criminal prosecution regarding Scarlett’s death proceeds at Nenagh District Court, with the next major hearing set for 15 May. Simultaneously, the sudden death of Jason Faulkner is being handled as a coronial matter; while no foul play is suspected, official post-mortem results remain confidential pending a formal inquest. For a family enduring a "siege of sorrow," the coming hours at the Ballynanty Shrine represent a desperate hope that the cycle of tragedy has finally reached its end.
