Near Jamuna Bridge after a deadly crash in Bangladesh killed at least 15 people.

At least 15 people were killed and several others injured after a rod-laden truck overturned near the eastern side of the Jamuna Bridge on the Dhaka–Tangail Highway in Bangladesh early Monday morning.

The tragic accident occurred around 6:30 AM in the Soratoil Southpara area of Tangail district while the truck was reportedly heading toward northern Bangladesh carrying construction rods and passengers. Authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn beside the highway.

Emergency responders from the fire service, police, and local residents rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations. Several victims were trapped underneath the heavy vehicle and steel rods. Injured passengers were transported to Tangail General Hospital for treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition.

Officials from the Jamuna Bridge East Police Station confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify the victims. The crash also caused temporary disruption to traffic on one of Bangladesh’s busiest highways before authorities restored normal movement.

Local witnesses suggested that overloading and unsafe passenger transport on cargo trucks may have contributed to the disaster. Investigators are also looking into whether speeding or poor road conditions played a role in the crash.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over road safety standards in Bangladesh, where highway accidents frequently claim dozens of lives each year due to reckless driving, overloaded vehicles, and weak enforcement of transport regulations.
