Following the six-year prison sentence of a British-Bangladeshi man, Shah Masukur Rashid, for sexually assaulting children eight years ago, UK faith leaders have demanded that a strict, non-contact policy regarding children be upheld at all costs.
The imprisonment of a well-known religious volunteer in Gloucestershire has sparked a profound nationwide debate regarding structural accountability and the rigorous enforcement of child protection protocols within community-run religious institutions.
Shah Masukur Rashid, 45, was sentenced to six years in prison by Gloucester Crown Court for historical sexual assaults against two young girls. Widely recognized as an active social and political figure within the community, the charges against Rashid stated that he had leveraged his position as a volunteer Quranic tutor to gain unmonitored and free access to families between October 2018 and January 2019.
Senior faith leaders have now issued directives to adhere to an uncompromising, zero-tolerance baseline to ensure the safety of children.
Commenting on these developments, Maulana Najmul Haq, the Imam and Khatib of South Woodford Mosque in London, told to Daily Dazzling Dawn :
"Even before I began my tenure as an Imam in the UK, I had been teaching children Quranic studies and instructing at various madrasas. At the very first mosque where I started my career, the primary directive given to me was that under no circumstances—whether to improve academic progress or to maintain discipline—should children be scolded or intimidated. Touching a child's body is strictly prohibited. Even out of affection or emotion, one must never lay a hand on a child. I strongly urge everyone concerned to follow this guideline to the absolute letter."
