The legal and investigative machinery of West Yorkshire has shifted into high gear following a devastating mid-week firearms discharge in Bradford that has left a young man clinging to life. As community anxieties simmer, the focus of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) now splits across two fronts: a highly anticipated courtroom appearance in Yorkshire and an active, fast-moving manhunt along the Suffolk coastline.
The violent incident unfolded late on Wednesday, 8 July, shortly before 11:00 PM. Police and emergency services rushed to the junction of Gaythorne Road and Parsonage Road in the West Bowling area of Bradford following reports of gunfire. There, first responders discovered 28-year-old Mohammed Hasan with a catastrophic gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in a critical and life-threatening condition, fighting for survival under constant medical supervision.
Investigations conducted by Daily Dazzling Dawn reveal a complex web of suspects stretching hundreds of miles from the industrial heartlands of Bradford to eastern England. Local police forces in Suffolk have been actively collaborating with Yorkshire detectives, executing multiple raids that highlight the expansive nature of this inquiry.
In a significant breakthrough, West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Desi Hasnain, 21, has been charged with the attempted murder, while detectives are still seeking 24-year-old Luqman Khan in connection with the shooting. Akhter, of Tichborne Road, Bradford, who self-defines as Asian Pakistani, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance before Bradford Magistrates’ Court today, 15 July.
With Akhter’s case now entering the sub judice phase of the British legal system, investigators are shifting their primary operational focus toward locating Khan. Intelligence suggest that Khan fled Yorkshire shortly after the shooting, traveling south-east to Suffolk, with active sightings and tracking pointing specifically to the Ipswich and Felixstowe areas.
The investigation has already seen a flurry of activity in East Anglia. Over the weekend, several arrests were made in Ipswich, including a 35-year-old man detained on suspicion of attempted murder who has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Five other individuals, aged between 21 and 36, were previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have similarly been bailed.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the complex investigation, told journalists:
“The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries and we are continuing to progress the investigation at pace, as these latest arrests illustrate. We are also continuing to carry out extensive enquiries to locate Luqman Khan and are keen to hear from anyone who has any information that could help us to locate him."
DCI Bates also urged witnesses who might have captured crucial footage on dashcams, home CCTV, or mobile phones near the Gaythorne Road area on the night of the attack to come forward immediately.
As the hunt for Luqman Khan continues, anyone with verified information regarding his whereabouts or the details of the shooting is urged to contact West Yorkshire Police via 101 or the Live Chat facility on their official website, quoting crime reference 13260388729.
