British Gas Owner Centrica to Cut 1,300 Jobs as Profits Fall

Centrica, the parent company of British Gas, has announced plans to cut around 1,300 jobs as part of its ongoing business transformation programme.

The energy company said the job reductions are linked to its efforts to restructure operations while continuing to invest heavily in major energy projects, including the Sizewell C nuclear power station.

Centrica also reported that its adjusted core profit fell by 18% during the first half of the year, covering the six months to 30 June.

The company said the decline was mainly caused by the sale of Spirit Energy assets, production outages, weaker market conditions and unfavourable weather, all of which reduced profit margins during the period.

Despite the lower earnings, Centrica said it remains focused on modernising the business and investing in the UK's long-term energy infrastructure.
