Four Men Killed, One Injured in Merseyside Car Crash as Police Launch Investigation

Four young men lost their lives and another was injured after a serious single-vehicle crash in Merseyside during the early hours of Friday, prompting a major police investigation and widespread road closures.

Emergency services were called shortly before 2:00am following reports that a black Seat Cupra had veered off the road and struck a lamp post in Huyton. According to police, the vehicle had been travelling from Liverpool towards Knowsley when the collision occurred.

Despite the rapid response from emergency crews, four occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were aged 23, 23, 24 and 26.

A fifth occupant, a 27-year-old man, survived the crash and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police said he remains in a stable condition.

Investigators have launched an extensive inquiry to determine what caused the collision. As part of the investigation, 11 roads surrounding the crash site have been closed and are expected to remain shut throughout the weekend.

Authorities have also established a temporary flight restriction zone over Liverpool Road, preventing the use of drones in the area while forensic examinations continue.

Merseyside Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in speaking to motorists who were travelling through the area shortly before the crash and residents who may have captured relevant footage on doorbell or CCTV cameras.

Superintendent Paul Holden described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy, saying the force's immediate focus is supporting the victims' families while establishing the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

He appealed for anyone with information, including video footage showing the black Seat Cupra before the collision or the incident itself, to contact police, stressing that even seemingly minor details could prove crucial to the investigation.

The identities of the four men have not yet been released, and inquiries into the cause of the crash remain ongoing.
