A 23-year-old man faces a murder charge following the fatal assault of Camden resident Ahmed Jama in North London.
Mohamed Touitha, 23, of Melyn Close, Islington, was remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court following formal charges brought by Metropolitan Police detectives. The charge stems from an incident in the early hours of Friday, 10 July, when emergency services were called to Hungerford Road, Islington, at approximately 04:00 BST.
Upon arrival, police officers and medical personnel discovered 50-year-old Ahmed Jama—known affectionately to family and friends as Jaqanaf—suffering from severe head injuries. Mr Jama, a resident of neighbouring Camden, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite intensive medical care over five days, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, 15 July.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command subsequently escalated the investigation to a full homicide inquiry. Touitha was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, 28 July, before being formally charged the following day.
The investigation has seen several key developments as police work to establish the full sequence of events leading to the fatal assault.
On Wednesday, 22 July, officers arrested a 24-year-old man in the Islington area on suspicion of murder. He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries. Additionally, two women aged 18 and 19 were arrested on Sunday, 12 July, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm prior to Mr Jama's death. Both women remain on police bail while investigative work continues.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, leading local policing operations, reaffirmed the Met's commitment to supporting the victim's family and ensuring community reassurance.
"Our thoughts are first and foremost with Ahmed's family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time," Chief Superintendent Stewart told journalists. "As enquiries continue, local residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area over the coming days. I would ask anyone with any information, CCTV or doorbell camera footage which could support the investigation to contact us."
As reporting from Daily Dazzling Dawn continues, legal proceedings against the accused will move through the magistrate and crown court systems to determine exact culpability under criminal law.
