Man Arrested After Death of 9-Year-Old Girl in Scotland

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after the death of a nine-year-old girl who was found seriously injured at an industrial estate in Angus, Scotland.

Police Scotland said officers were called to Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath at around 12:02am on Monday after reports that a young girl had been discovered with serious injuries.

Emergency services took the nine-year-old to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later died from her injuries.

Police confirmed that a 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case. Officers are treating the girl's death as suspicious while investigations continue.

Detective Superintendent Nicky McGovern said police responded to the incident shortly after midnight on Monday, 3 August 2026, after the child was found seriously injured at the industrial estate.

She confirmed that the girl was transported to Ninewells Hospital, where she later died. McGovern added that the arrested man remains in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death.

Police also said the girl's family is receiving support from specially trained officers while detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
