Bangladeshi Expatriate Youth Killed in Fire in Spain

A 26-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate has died in a fire at a garage in Madrid, the capital of Spain.

The deceased has been identified as Yusuf Hasan Alif, 26, who worked as a food delivery rider in the city.

According to information on his passport, Mohammad Yusuf Hasan Alif was born in Dhaka. His father is Abdul Motalib and his mother is Rahima Khatun.

The fire broke out on the afternoon of Sunday, August 30, at a garage located near the Palos de la Frontera Metro Station in Madrid.

Local media, citing police and firefighters, reported that a fire suddenly started inside the bicycle garage before rapidly spreading across the facility. After receiving an emergency alert, firefighters and other emergency personnel rushed to the location and immediately began a rescue operation.

Despite their efforts, Yusuf, who had become trapped inside the garage, could not be brought out alive. He died at the scene of the incident.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the fire may have been caused by an explosion involving the battery of an electric bicycle kept inside the garage. An electrical short circuit is also being considered as a possible cause.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to establish exactly how the fire started. Investigators will also examine whether any safety problems or shortcomings at the facility contributed to the incident.

Yusuf’s body is currently being kept at the morgue of a local hospital while the necessary procedures are being carried out.
