Four people have appeared in court charged with the murder of a newborn baby girl who was found stabbed to death at a house in Sheffield.
The baby, referred to during court proceedings as Baby S, was discovered at a property in Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday after police were called following concerns for her safety. Four adults have now been charged in connection with her death and have been remanded in custody.
Andrea Skopova, 20, formerly of Robey Street in Sheffield, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court alongside Peter Horvath, 19, Nina Horvathova, 37, and Peter Horvath, 38, who are all listed as being from Holywell Heights.
All four defendants have been charged with murder. They also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.
The prosecution alleges that steps were taken to conceal the killing of the infant. The details of the evidence are expected to be addressed as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system.
A fifth person, a 15-year-old girl who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.
Following a brief hearing, the four adult defendants were remanded into custody. They are due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday.
The discovery of the newborn prompted a major police investigation in Holywell Heights, a residential area in Wincobank, Sheffield.
