A 68-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run in Birmingham, with West Midlands Police launching an urgent investigation to identify the driver and vehicle involved. The fatal collision happened shortly before 9pm on Thursday, 3 September, on Stratford Road in the Hall Green area, near the junction with Wycome Road and close to an Aldi supermarket.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services. Police said the vehicle involved was dark-coloured and was driven away immediately after the collision, prompting officers to appeal for witnesses, dashcam recordings and mobile phone footage that could help identify the driver.
West Midlands Police said officers were called to Stratford Road just before 9pm following reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a car.
The collision occurred in the Hall Green area of Birmingham, with the road subsequently closed between Fox Hollies Road and Robin Hood Island while emergency services and collision investigators worked at the scene.
The pedestrian, aged 68, died as a result of the crash. His identity has not yet been released, and his family is being supported by police.
West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, but the man's injuries proved fatal.
The driver did not remain at the scene and the vehicle was driven away following the collision. Detectives are now working to establish the vehicle's exact make and model and identify the person who was driving it.
Detective Sergeant Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said officers were supporting the victim's family while making clear that identifying the driver was an immediate priority.

The appeal is particularly focused on people who were travelling along Stratford Road around the time of the crash, as well as anyone who may have been near the junction with Wycome Road.
