BNP nominates Jahrat Adib Chowdhury for reserved women’s seat from Moulvibazar

  • Jahrat Adib Chowdhury from Moulvibazar has been nominated. She is the daughter of late former State Minister for Food and Disaster Management, Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced the names of 36 candidates nominated for reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Among them,  Barrister Jahrat Adib Chowdhury from Moulvibazar has been nominated. She is the daughter of late former State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Advocate Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury.

Her father was the first Minister of State in history from Barlekha. Today, she has become the first woman from the same area to serve as a Member of Parliament.

Jahrat, a barrister-at-law from Lincoln’s Inn, UK, and an esteemed alumna of Harvard Business School. She holds the distinction of being the first female Barrister from Barlekha and is a prominent member of both the Moulvibazar District Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar. Since her school days, she has been well-known for her indomitable talent and intellect. During her time in school and college, she earned a distinguished reputation as an accomplished debater.

Breaking new ground in Bangladesh’s corporate history, she became the first woman to be appointed as the Deputy CEO of a major corporation like Banglalink. Recently, she transitioned from her corporate career to public service, successfully winning an election to become a Member of Parliament.

After completing her Bar finals in London, she embarked on her legal career. She is married to Barrister Zeeshan Hyder, and together, they are the proud parents of a son.

Jahrat Adib Chowdhury is a prominent Bangladeshi legal and corporate leader who served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Deputy CEO) of Banglalink, one of the leading digital service providers in Bangladesh. 

Reports indicate that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman decided on her parliamentary candidacy following a personal interview process.

The list of candidates was announced on Monday (April 20) at 12:00 pm by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Other nominees include: Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akter Ranu, Newaz Halima Early, Mosammat Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Barrister Shakila Farzana, Helen Jarin Khan, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, Nipon Roy Chowdhury, Jeba Amin Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Dr. Sansila Jebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minj, Subarna Shikder, Shamima Ara Begum Swapna, Shammi Akter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bithika Binte Hossain, Suraiya Jarin, Mansura Akter, Momtaz Alam, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Shawkat Ara Akter, Madhabi Marma, Selina Sultana, and Rezeka Sultana.
