On Saturday, 29 August, a day-long journalism training workshop organised by the Campaign for Media Freedom (CMF) was held at the Moulvibazar Zilla Parishad Auditorium. The event provided intensive training on essential professional reporting skills to working journalists and youth interested in the media profession. Organised as an independent professional skill development initiative, the workshop utilised international broadcasting experience to strengthen the quality and ethics of local-level news. Following the sessions, the event concluded with the formal distribution of certificates among participants, reflecting a dedicated commitment to grassroots editorial enhancement without any foreign donor funding.
Akbar Hossain, former Press Minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in London and former senior journalist for the BBC, served as the chief trainer for the day-long programme. Drawing on decades of experience in international broadcasting and print media, he provided participants with practical guidance on producing objective news, verifying source accuracy, and properly applying editorial policies within modern newsrooms.
Journalists working across diverse media outlets alongside youth aspiring to join the profession attended the workshop. Trainees actively engaged in detailed discussions on the nuances of public interest journalism, structuring news stories, and addressing various editorial challenges amidst a changing media landscape.
At the concluding session following the training, Moulvibazar Zilla Parishad Administrator Mizanur Rahman attended as the chief guest and presented certificates to the trainees. Commending the participants for their interest in professional development, he noted that a well-trained and objective journalistic community plays an invaluable role in serving local public interests.
The primary session was chaired by CMF President Hussain Ahmed and conducted by General Secretary Md. Forhad Hossain. Key addresses were delivered by discussants including former President of Moulvibazar Press Club Abdul Hamid Mahbub, Daily Manab Zamin Special Correspondent Mizanur Rahman, and Munjer Ahmad Chowdhury, founder and publisher of the UK-based English daily The Dazzling Dawn.
Additional remarks were delivered by CMF Senior Vice President Shahnewaz Chowdhury Sumon and former Vice President Ashraf Ali, both of whom emphasised professional unity and continuous skill enhancement among media workers across the district.
The UK-based English daily The Dazzling Dawn served as the associate partner for the training initiative. According to information shared by CMF Office Secretary Shuvo Goala, this marked the organisation's sixth professional workshop conducted entirely with self-funding and without financial aid from donor agencies. The Campaign for Media Freedom reaffirmed its determination to continue diverse programmes for journalists aimed at advancing editorial freedom, professional safety, and technical proficiency.
