  • A 19-year-old Romford resident has become the fifth suspect charged with the murder of British-Bangladeshi courier Masum Miah in East London.

A nineteen-year-old Romford man has appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of British-Bangladeshi courier Masum Miah, bringing the total number of individuals arrested and charged in the case to five as homicide detectives investigate whether the fatal East Ham shooting was an orchestrated contract execution. Nay-Quan Davis-Jodo, of Romford, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on Thursday, 8 October, before formal murder charges were authorised the following day. The defendant appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 10 October, and was remanded in custody ahead of his scheduled appearance at the Central Criminal Court on Tuesday, 13 October.

The development marks a major procedural advance for the Met's Specialist Crime Command in unravelling the fatal ambush of Mr Miah, who died inside his vehicle in Newham during the early hours of Tuesday, 18 August. Detectives continue to examine forensic and digital avenues to ascertain whether the shooting constituted a targeted assassination commissioned through illicit regional networks, Daily Dazzling Dawn understand.

Five Suspects Arrested and Charged as Proceedings Advance- Davis-Jodo is the fifth suspect arrested and formally charged with murder in connection with the fatal ambush on St Bartholomew’s Road. Police were originally called to the residential street at approximately 3am on 18 August following reports of firearms discharges. Upon arrival alongside London Ambulance Service paramedics, emergency responders discovered forty-two-year-old Mr Miah critically wounded inside his stationary white Toyota Prius. Despite prompt medical attention, the victim succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds at the scene.

The latest arrest expands the legal proceedings following the earlier court appearances of four other co-defendants. Eighteen-year-old Leonel Friman Intasse, of High Street, Sittingbourne, Kent, was taken into custody on Wednesday, initially remanded at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, and subsequently committed to the Old Bailey on Friday. Three older co-defendants—Sergiu Leahu, forty, of no fixed address; Renars Ludins, forty-seven, of no fixed address; and Mihai Stancu, thirty-six, of Charlton Crescent, Barking—were previously arrested, charged, and committed to custody. All four co-defendants—Leahu, Intasse, Ludins, and Stancu—are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey for their plea and trial preparation hearings on Monday, 17 May next year.

Detectives Probe Motive Behind Targeted Vehicle Ambush- Specialist Crime Command detectives established that multiple live rounds were discharged into Mr Miah’s stationary car at point-blank range, causing the vehicle to jolt upon impact and strike an adjacent resident’s parked black Range Rover as the assailants fled. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that senior investigating officers are actively probing whether the lethal assault represented a commissioned, paid contract execution orchestrated through organised crime networks, illicit debt-recovery cartels, or regional narcotics distribution rings operating across East London. Forensic teams are conducting intensive digital examinations of encrypted mobile communications, cell-site tracking data, and transnational financial transfers to pinpoint potential external handlers, commissioning intermediaries, or monetary remuneration linked to the assassination.

Court records confirm that the five accused men possess varied origins and demographic backgrounds, dispelling informal speculation that the defendants share a single nationality. While Davis-Jodo and Intasse reside in Romford and Sittingbourne respectively, Leahu and Stancu are of Romanian heritage, and Ludins originates from Latvia. Notably, Leahu was previously known to judicial authorities, having received a custodial sentence alongside a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order prohibiting his presence within the City of London financial district following repeat retail theft convictions on Cheapside. Detectives are working to establish the operational links and commissioning chain binding the five defendants across multiple jurisdictions.

Diaspora Mourns Young Immigrant Turned Family Provider-The violent killing has elicited deep grief across East London's British-Bangladeshi community and reverberated to Mr Miah’s ancestral home in Purba Karikona, situated within Ward 3 of the Bishwanath Municipality in Sylhet. Having migrated from Sylhet to the United Kingdom at a very young age to build an independent life, Mr Miah had established himself as a respected figure and devoted family provider. Relatives recalled that he had previously worked as an estate agent before recently transitioning to courier driving in order to secure a quiet, stable livelihood for his young household.

He leaves behind his widow and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Solemn memorial gatherings and communal prayers have been observed across both Newham and Sylhet, with diaspora elders voicing profound shock over the loss of a hardworking father. Community figures continue to liaise with police leadership, urging a comprehensive prosecution to uncover every party involved in commissioning or executing the fatal attack.

Urgent Public Appeal Over Suspicious Movements

Homicide detectives maintain an urgent public appeal concerning the suspicious movements of a black Nissan Juke observed navigating St Bartholomew’s Road between the late evening of Monday, 17 August, and the morning of Tuesday, 18 August. Daily Dazzling Dawn learned that officers strongly believe this specific vehicle provided operational surveillance, advance reconnaissance, and getaway logistics during the fatal ambush.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten confirmed to journalists that police thoughts remain entirely with Mr Miah’s grieving family during this harrowing period while appealing for witnesses to step forward. The Metropolitan Police urges motorists who traversed Newham during the designated timeframe, as well as local residents and commercial operators with dashcam footage, private CCTV, or doorbell video, to assist the investigation. Information can be provided by calling police on 101 quoting reference CAD 797/18AUG, through the Major Incident Public Portal, or completely anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
