In a statement released on Friday, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that two martyrs' remains had been "transferred from the Old City of Nablus" by its personnel. Hamza Maqbool and Khairi Shaheen were the two young guys who died, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. According to the agency, Israeli security officers surrounded a home before fatally shooting the men. Israel's military claimed that the guys were accused of carrying out a shooting incident this week against police. Al Jazeera TV reported three additional people also suffered injuries. Prior to this, Anadolu Agency was informed by eyewitnesses that Israeli special forces had assaulted the Old City of Nablus, sparking gunfights with Palestinian armed men. These witnesses saw Israeli military reinforcements enter the city from Al-Quds Street toward the Old City. The incident came less than two days after an Israeli army raid in the Jenin refugee camp that killed 12 Palestinians and wounded 140 others, 30 of them seriously. The raid, which forced thousands to flee the camp which was left in rubble and ruin, was the largest Israeli attack in the West Bank in more than 20 years. Israel has been conducting near-daily raids and killings of Palestinians in the West Bank since June 2021 in an attempt to crack down on a growing armed resistance.
