Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim has been associated with journalism for more than 26 years. Just as he was devoted to the newspaper in the country, he is busy searching for news abroad. But in retirement, he has established himself as another Shamim. He got success by creating a vegetable garden. This time bumper crop of gourd has been produced in the garden of senior journalist Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim.
In the garden made by him, you will not think that it is any vegetable garden in Bilet if you see the variety of gourd, pumpkin, beans, tomato, date, cucumber, green pepper, Naga pepper, lemon, vegetables etc. Rather, we should think of it as a piece of Bangladesh.
With long efforts, Shamim has developed a vegetable garden of various varieties in Hunsbury, Northampton, Britain. He started gardening as a hobby. Today, his garden is full of various types of vegetables.
In this regard, journalist Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim said that cultivating gourd in a place like Britain is a different pleasure. Gourds and gourds have grown on the trees this year. His garden is full of not only gourds, but also various kinds of vegetables. He enjoys giving these vegetables to relatives and friends. Behind his success lies the polonite process.
Shamim said, it is necessary to polonate the gourd plant. If this is not done, the plant does not produce well. In Bangladesh, gourd plants do not need to be fertilized because there are many insects and spiders in Bangladesh. But there are very few insects in Britain. So here it is necessary to polonate the gourd plant. Rubbing gourd flowers into small gourd buds is called polonaise. Besides, nothing is good without care. So care must be taken.
It should be noted that Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim, a member of the London Bangla Press Club and reporter of Channel S Television, has been gardening regularly for the past 12 years.
Shamim established the garden in the backyard of his house in Hunsbury, Northampton. This initiative is to meet the demand of domestic vegetables.
At first he gardened as a hobby, but now tending to this garden, cultivating various types of vegetables has become his passion. In this context, Shamim said, "I had a hobby of gardening since childhood. While living in the country, I used to plant various types of flower plants in the courtyard of the house. Besides, I used to cultivate seasonal vegetables on unused land. Ever since I came to Britain I dreamed of starting a garden. But it was no longer happening because I was doing it. Twelve years ago I made up my mind and started working. In my garden I have planted different types of vegetables as well as different types of flowers. When I work in the vegetable garden, I feel like I am in my motherland in Bangladesh. This love is also motivating me to grow vegetables. In which month to plant gourds? At the beginning of March, plant the seeds or seeds indoors. After that, take the tree outside at the end of May. If you take it out before that, it will die in winter."
Not only Shamim, Bangladeshi expatriates in different cities of Britain have been tending to vegetable gardens for the past few years. It can be said that vegetable cultivation is becoming popular day by day among Bengalis in Britain.
Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim's Bangladeshi village is in Shibgonj Shadar Para neighborhood in Sylhet city. Any Bengali can't help but fall in love when he goes to the garden courtyard. Shamim's hobby garden surrounds a piece of tranquility. And many Bengalis from different parts of Britain flocked to his house to see this hobby garden. Many times many people want information about gardening from Shamim. Shamim told us that he enjoys answering people's questions about gardening or people's interest.
He said, "Since 2012, I have been making gardens little by little behind the house. This plan is to taste a little bit of local food as a hobby. This hobby increased several times when I got the gourd on the tree in the first year."
Celebrity chef Ehsanul Islam Chowdhury Shamim's hobby garden partner is his wife and daughter. He said about the garden, "Every year in the summer, we organize a garden together. I give water in the morning and afternoon. Then, when the vegetables are harvested, all the troubles are over. We eat it ourselves and send these vegetables to our relatives and friends. Even when I see a smile on their face, it is difficult to express the feeling in words."
Is the most popular gourd in the garden? This year there was a pumpkin which weighed about 17 kg.
