Dhaka University Club UK, an organization of DU alumni living in the UK, has organized a boat trip with the alumni of Dhaka University on the historic river Thames in London. The elite fleet 'Glonden Sunrise' set sail from London's Temple Pier on Sunday, September 10. About 250 alumni and their family members participated in the naval parade. Alumni from different cities in England gather in the river Thames for a lively chat. Under the direction of journalist Tanvir Ahmed, Dhaka University Club UK Governing Council Member and Third Sector Consultant Bidhan Goswami and sponsor representative Hridmik Skill Chief Executive Officer Ruhul Amin, Rhythmic Skills Managing Director Tulip Sultana, Print Britannia Proprietor Aminul Hai, Shaugat Ali Benu and other senior alumni addressed the event. Dhaka University Alumnus SM Shafayet Hossain, Deputy Secretary of Law Ministry, was present as a guest at Nau Bihar. On the occasion, apart from prizes to the winners of drawing and quiz competitions, the club presented mementos to the patron representatives.
Jhumur Dutta, Polly Jahan, Shayla Shimla, Fateha Poly, Shahina Zebin and Fatema Lilly, members of the governing council of Dhaka University Club UK, served as the coordinators of the painting competition titled 'I Love London' with the participation of children and teenagers. Artist Masud Mizan, a former student of Dhaka University's Faculty of Fine Arts and member of Dhaka University Club UK's Board of Directors announced the winners of the painting competition along with two other judges, SK Tanveer Faisal and Salma Begum Seema.
Barrister Kazi Ashikur Rahman, Barrister Chowdhury Hafizur Rahman, Advocate Mujahidul Islam and Golam Farukuzzaman served as the coordinators of the quiz phase.
Labani Barua, Milan Biswas and Imtiaz Hossain Sabuj performed music as guest artists in the event. Among the alumni, Azizur Rahman, Mansurul Karim Piyas and others performed music.
Apart from MA Rashid, alumnus of the seventies Nau Bihar, the other members of the Governing Council were Sarwar-e Alam, Pradeep Majumder, Chiranjit Majumder, Rathindra Goswami, Harunur Rashid, Taslima Meera, Arifur Rahman, Himika Imam, Anisur Rahman, Shafqat Syed, Chaiti Roy, Labani Reza, Ishrat Jahan, Mohammad Abdul Matin Chowdhury, Alamgir Shahriar, Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Jahangir Hossain, Kamrun Nahar Medora, Mohammad Abdullah Al Hadi, Shipra Babla, Mumtaz Akhtar, Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Rashed Mamun, Mahmuda Chowdhury, Manir Chowdhury, Alamgir Kabir and Noor Mohammad Chowdhury and others.
Alumni who took part in a boat trip on the River Thames on a sunny afternoon said they found many friends from university life after a long break through such events. Dhaka University Club UK said that such initiatives will continue in the coming days.
