  • France legislative elections: Far-right poised to gain power in crucial vote

In the first round of what may turn out to be one of the most significant legislative elections in France's recent history, voters began casting ballots on Sunday.

The centrist alliance led by French President Emmanuel Macron faces complete destruction, not only from the far-right National Rally (which polls suggest may take power as early as next month) but also from the left.

On the line is the country’s leading role in the EU and NATO — as well as the French economy.

We’ll be following every twist from 5 p.m. CET on June 30. Polls will close at 8 p.m. CET, with exit polls expected shortly after.
