Prices for Google Pixel 9 series leak
Two months ahead of schedule, Google is hosting a hardware launch event on August 13 and is likely to showcase the Pixel 9 family at that time. The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold will provide you significantly more high-end alternatives than in previous Pixel series, making this the largest one yet.
Let's get started since the prices for each of these smartphones in France have been released today. Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Cosmo, and Mojito are the rumored color options for the Pixel 9. Since Mojito is probably more greenish than pink, we presume Cosmo to be the pinkish-hued color that was leaked last week.
The standard model will cost €899 for 128GB of storage and €999 for 256GB. Though it will have extra cameras, the Pixel 9 Pro will be roughly the same size as the Pixel 9. Starting at €1,099 for 128GB of storage, this one goes up to €1,199 for 256GB, and €1,329 for 512GB.
The top version will only be offered in Obsidian and Hazel, while the other two also get Porcelain and Pink (Cosmo, is that you?) options, allegedly.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL will have the same innards as the Pixel 9 Pro, but will be larger - size-wise, this is the true successor to the Pixel 8 Pro. It will start at €1,199 with 128GB of storage, and will be priced at €1,299 with 256GB, €1,429 with 512GB, and €1,689 with 1TB.
The 1TB version will only be available in Obsidian, the 128GB and 512GB models add Porcelain and Hazel, while the 256GB variant is the only one also offered in Pink. It's not easy to make sense of this strategy for us either, don't worry.
Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be the successor to the original Pixel Fold from last year. This one will set you back €1,899 with 256GB of storage and €2,029 with 512GB. It will be available in Obsidian and Porcelain only.
As with all pricing leaks in euros, note that different VAT levels might create small variations across the EU, but if this leak is accurate, then that's what you should expect as a baseline.
For reference, note that the Pixel 8 was €100 cheaper in the 128GB iteration when it launched, and €140 cheaper with 256GB. While the Pixel 9 Pro is similarly priced to the Pixel 8 Pro in its base model, the 256GB version is €30 more and the 512GB model is €40 more, and the comparison isn't even fair to begin with - as we already mentioned, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is the true successor to the Pixel 8 Pro, and with that in mind the bigger Google non-folding flagship for 2024 is at least €100 more expensive than its predecessor was.
While these prices won't necessarily translate directly into any other currency, it stands to reason that those which haven't changed from last year for the EU will stay the same as they were in 2023 in other markets as well, and those that did go up will also go up across the globe.
