  • More Rain Ahead as UK Summer Fades

After thunderstorms struck various sections of the UK on Saturday, more intense rain is expected to batter certain places in the coming days.

The Met Office has issued additional yellow weather warnings for rain on Sunday, the day of the autumnal equinox, which signifies the end of summer, and Monday.
They begin to move north and east on Sunday, covering a sizable portion of Wales and southern and central England. They end at 23:59 BST on Monday. On Saturday, there was severe rain in London, Wales, and Birmingham along with lightning, thunder, hail, and rain in a number of locations around the nation, including Luton, Bedfordshire, St. Albans in Hertfordshire, and Cornwall.

On Sunday, the Met Office is warning of surface water issues and travel disruption due to heavy rain, urging people to take care if out and about or travelling.

Its meteorologist Becky Mitchell said the weather will be "unsettled" at the start of the week, with the potential for more localised flooding.

Heavy rain will continue into Monday, spreading further across northern and eastern England, with power cuts, flooding of homes and businesses and delays to train and bus services possible, the Met Office said.

The south-west will be drier and turn brighter later in the day and the weather will become drier for some areas further north but patchy rain will move into the north of Scotland.

Forecasters expect temperatures to dip on Tuesday, but a lot of the wet weather will clear and some sunny spells will develop across the north and the south.

Wet and windy weather will return to southern areas on Wednesday. Elsewhere it will be dry but cloudy.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and areas around the Irish Sea are expected to experience calmer conditions during this period.

Although there will be plenty of sunshine and good temperatures in those locations, the autumn chill will soon approach.

In the UK, many people were basking in the bright sunshine only a few days ago, but Sunday marks the formal end of summer.

Every year, "astronomical autumn" begins at the equinox, which falls on September 22 this year, whereas "meteorological autumn" begins on September 1.

"Equal night" is how the Latin term "equinox" is literally translated.

Everywhere on Earth enjoys around 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness on these days.

We're all going to need to alter our wardrobes shortly because it's becoming cooler outside.

The normal range of daily temperatures for next week is from 12C in Scotland to maybe 16C along the south coast of England. By the middle of the week, there is a chances of gales and colder, northerly winds.
