A prominent city center thoroughfare has been partially closed due to roadworks, which will continue into the new year.
Since November 4, UK Power Networks has begun putting in new electrical cable ducts on Church Street close to North Laine.
The initial plan was for the work to be finished by November 30.
However, it has now been extended until December 20.
The energy company apologised for the extension, citing “ground conditions” as one of the main reasons.

The junction between Tichborne Street and Queens Road including the cycle lane will continue to be closed during this period.
A spokeswoman said: “We apologise that our work on Church Street, from Tichborne Street to Queens Road, is taking longer than anticipated, for reasons including the ground conditions.
“This section of the road will now be returned to normal on December 20 for the Christmas period, followed by a further week of work from January 6 to 11.
“After January 11, work will progress along the remainder of Church Street, between the junctions of Queens Road and Dyke Road.
“We will write to residents with further details about this work nearer the time, and are working to minimise the impact.”

Church Street will continue be a two-way carriageway between Tichborne Street and Jubilee Street.
The Brighton Theatre Car Park will remain open through Spring Gardens.
Windsor Street will become a two-way carriageway and will be closed at the junction with Church Street.
Work will be carried out between 8am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday, but the company can seek permission for extended hours.
Noise disruptions are expected as the works involve excavating trenches in the road to lay pipework.

These works are part of UK Power Networks’ Fishersgate to Brighton Upgrade Project.

UK Power Networks are also conducting work to upgrade their network on Portland Road in Hove, partially closing the road until December 20.
Two-way traffic lights are currently in place between Portland Avenue and Jesmond Road.
Further works are expected in the coming year with ten still in planning across the city.
