Visa Applications

The Consular Services Portal will streamline the application process for applicants for German national visas, including work, study, and family reunification visas.

This software receives applications for national visas, eliminating the waiting time at consular offices and the required travel commune that accompanies the application procedure.

The digital visa procedure is a real administrative revolution that boosts Germany as a business hub. As one of the largest economies and a modern immigration country, Germany now had a national visa procedure that was fully up-to-date – modern, digital, and secure.

The Consular Services Portal has been connected to 167 visa offices, and it is anticipated that the digitalised visa application process will be extended globally, enabling applicants to submit their applications online.

Consular Services Portal “Revolutionary” Step for Germany to Address Labour Shortages

The Services Portal is revolutionary, according to the Foreign Minister, particularly in the ongoing fight against labour shortages, which has serious implications for the German economy. After more than two years of development, the Foreign Affairs Office (BAA) has launched a trial operation on three visa application locations.

There are now about 400,000 skilled worker openings in Germany, and it is anticipated that skilled workers from around the world—including some Indian nationals—will fill these positions. A recent deal between the German government and India increased the number of German work visas for qualified Indians from the previous ceiling of 20,000 to 90,000.

The German Interior Ministry has also taken more measures to meet the market demand, increasing the number of work visas by 22,422.

We are ensuring that we attract the workers and skilled workers that our economy has urgently needed for years. This is crucial for the future viability of our country. The figures show that the changes are working. Skilled workers can now come to Germany more quickly and get started.

Germany Enhances Efforts to Become Attractive for Migrant Workers

In addition to the streamlined visa application process, the German government has improved conditions overall for migrant workers. One of these changes is the Skilled Immigration Act, which allows skilled workers to come to Germany under very few conditions.

Thanks to the Opportunity Card or the Chancenkarte, migrant workers can move to Germany for employment purposes with basic German language skills, a university degree or around two years of professional experience.
