Australian High Commission in Dhaka is expected to release further details on the application procedures and requirements in the coming days.
In a significant policy shift, Australia will now process visa applications for Bangladeshi citizens directly from its High Commission in Dhaka, eliminating the previous requirement of routing applications through New Delhi.
The decision was confirmed by Australia's Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke, during a phone conversation with Bangladesh's Adviser on Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, on Thursday.
The announcement was made at a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the Chief Adviser’s Office. Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury informed the council that the new visa processing system would be effective immediately.
This development follows a request made by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, during Minister Burke’s visit to Bangladesh in October last year. The request was aimed at simplifying and expediting the visa application process for Bangladeshi citizens.
Previously, all Australian visa applications from Bangladesh were processed through the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, causing delays and logistical challenges for Bangladeshi applicants.
With this policy change, Bangladeshi citizens seeking Australian visas will now be able to complete their application process more conveniently, reducing both time and administrative burdens.
Government officials and immigration experts have welcomed the decision, stating that it will enhance diplomatic relations and facilitate easier travel for Bangladeshi students, professionals, and tourists heading to Australia.
