Tragically, incidents of brother-on-brother violence are not unprecedented within the East London Bangladeshi community. In a chillingly similar case from 2016, British Bangladeshi man Juhel Ahmed, then 30, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 36-year-old brother Ruhel Ahmed. The fatal altercation occurred at their family home in Timor House, Duckett Street, Stepney, following a dispute over broken plant pots, highlighting the devastating consequences that can arise from even seemingly minor disagreements within families. The brothers had a history of disputes, and shortly before the murder, they argued about damaged plant pots belonging to Juhel. During the ensuing struggle, Juhel strangled his elder brother before seeking hospital treatment for hand injuries sustained in the incident.

A local resident stated that in 2017, a teenage Desi boy was found guilty of murdering 20-year-old Syed Jamanoor Islam in Mile End following a dispute that originated from eggs being thrown.
