Mystery Shrouds Bangladeshi Woman's Death in Canada, Eight Months On

Eight months have passed since the puzzling death of a Bangladeshi woman working at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, yet the mystery surrounding her demise remains unsolved. Local police authorities have reportedly been unable to provide any clear information regarding the incident.

Nandita Bhattacharya Munmun, a Bangladeshi national, was found dead on October 15, 2024, at the base of the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre in Saskatoon by the Saskatoon Police Service.

Munmun was the wife of Anup Bhattacharya, the third child of former commissioner Bolai Bhattacharya from Purbasha Residential Area in Sreemangal Upazila town, Moulvibazar District, Bangladesh.

Before relocating, Munmun held a high-ranking position at Prime Bank Limited's Sreemangal branch. In June 2022, seeking a better life, she and her family immigrated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, where both she and her husband were employed.

Anup Bhattacharya stated that his wife, Nandita Bhattacharya Munmun, worked as an employee at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre in Saskatoon. On the day of the incident, Anup had dropped his wife off at work in the morning. He returned to the hotel around 4:00 PM to pick her up and bring her home.

After waiting until approximately 5:30 PM and repeatedly calling her mobile, a police officer from the hotel approached him with his wife's phone, informing him that she was no longer alive. However, police could not explain when or how she fell from the roof. Anup Bhattacharya also reported that there were no witnesses, no CCTV footage of the fall, and his wife's debit and credit cards were missing from her purse.

CCTV footage from the day of the incident showed Munmun reaching the storeroom. After that point, she was not seen again on camera. Reports indicate that no CCTV footage captured her going to the roof or falling from it. She reportedly died after falling from the roof of the six-story hotel.

It is understood that, according to Canadian and Western laws, there are no regulations permitting individuals to access hotel rooftops. The entire hotel is under CCTV surveillance, with a policy of continuous monitoring of footage. Furthermore, the key to the roof was held by the maintenance department. These circumstances raise questions about how Munmun accessed the roof and from whom she obtained the key, ultimately leading to her death.
